DintonCC – Wiltshire – Report

Rich Cridge – Report – 21st July
No cricket this past week-end because of the rain – On Monday, Andy O’Neill , Ben Coombes, and myself, helped out at the Salisbury and District ‘Chance to Shine Festival’ held at South Wilts Cricket Club. Four schools took part playing a Round Robin. These schools were: Dinton – Chilmark – WoodfordValley and Harnham, with Harnham only just beating Chilmark to the top spot.
Highlight of the day was former England batsman Graham Gooch being on hand to give the youngsters tips and advice.

Chance to Shine is a programme which funds coaches working with schools. Dinton has been proud to be heavily involved in the scheme at a local level with me now finishing my 2nd year as district manager and Ben Coombes delivering a lot of the coaching hours.

DintonCC – Wiltshire – Match Report

Mentioned in Despatches - Dave Roberts – 1st x1 – Scored a brilliant 70!

Mentioned in Despatches - Angelo Zissis – 2ndx1 – Scored a terrific 132!

Match Report – 9th July – Rich Cridge

Dinton 2nd XI travailed to Hurley Park looking for a moral busting win after the previous weeks heavy defeat. Rob Middlecote won the toss and decided to bat first on what is usually a batsman wicket. Angelo Zizzis took the attack to the host from the off reeling of a succession of boundaries. This helped Dinton to race to 50 in just 11 overs. Hursley’s skipper took the only two wickets to fall before the drinks brake. This brought Lawrence Hannaford into join Zissis and the pair set about the bowling they added 133 for the 3rd wicket. Zissis was finally dismissed by Prasad for 132 his fist ton for Dinton. This would be the home side’s last success and Hannaford in partnership with Nick Gale took Dinton total to 257-3 the pair finishing on 70 not out and 30 not out respectfully. Skipper Foreman finished with the best figures for his team with 2-30 from his ten.

Hursley’s openers stat in positive fashion despatching any loose offerings and for a while they were up with the run rated. The introduction of Rich Cridge (2-50) saw the openers dismissed  in two overs off one another at the other end Rob Middlecote’s (1-28) leg spin was slowing the run rate. But the visitors found the 3rd wicket difficult to come by as Manning and Rene (30) added 72 for the 3rd wicket in 16 overs. With Middlecote and Cridge finishing their allotted 10 overs Nick Gale (3-21) came on and started to take wickets including danger man manning for 87.HursleyPark finished their 42 overs on 176-7 Dinton completing their victory by 81 runs.

Dinton’s 1st XI game at home against Donnington was a much tighter affair. The visitors won the toss and decided to bowl first a decision that looked to be a good one as they struck as early as the 3rdnd over.

This brought John Sealy into join Dave Roberts, Sealy looked in sparkling form racing to 18 in just 12 minutes when he turned fro a second run his knee twisted under him resulting in him having to leave the field of play unable to return. This brought Rich Randall (20) into join Roberts giving him good support until his dismissal. Roberts used all his years of experience as he past 50 with wickets falling regularly around him. He was finally the 8th man out for 70, Rich Pearce was the only double figure scorer this 18 as the hosts were 159-9 Sealy being unable to complete his innings.

R. Dando was the pick of the Donnington bowling with 3-22 from his 10 overs.

Dinton knew they would have to bowl and field well. This they did to keep the pressure on their visitors thought out the innings Damith Gunawardana bowled 10 luckless overs for just 19 runs. But it was Arran Musselwhite (2-29) who made the 1st brake though, With John Sealy missing from the attack the under used Rich Randall was called upon and he didn’t let his team down taking 4 wicket in 7 overs for the cost of 32 runs. For the visitors it was only opener T Oliver and number eight T Pearce who both score 29 who put up any resistance. A close hard fort game came to an end in the final over as Donnington were bowled out for 146 Dinton winning by 13 runs. Rich Pearce taking the final two wickets to finish on 2-32.

These wins move both side closer to safety next week the 1st XI have a rest with no game while the 2nd XI host 4th place Breamore.
